TIL #1: Tasks should be SMART too

Last week we were setting up the goals and tasks for the iteration and one was called something like "Finish the design of the app". After two days working on that task following questions came into my mind "Am I finished now? Can I put it down?". And that got me thinking; it should be clear when something is done, it should not be necessary to think about it.

SMART " is a mnemonic to guide people when they set objectives, for example for project management, employee performance management and personal development."

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Time-bound

So, whenever formulating a task, might that be for a User Story or a personal To Do list, check if it passes the SMART test. For example the "Finish the design of the app" task, would be divided into concrete sub tasks like "Change the background of displayed images according to mock-up".
